Other virtual pianos have this problem to a larger degree. Yet, in some degree, it still has this dullness problem. ![]() It sounds better than ANY virtual pianos on the market. Some one recommended "reducing the volume." That indeed helps a bit.Īlso, I do not say that Pianoteq sounds worse than youtube records. People recognize that problem: the more sound (thicker music fabric) - the duller the sound overall. Many people will agree with me, and the issue was given some discussion here at the forum. But, again, for a distant recording - just perfect.Īndrei, I described the issue very generally, very very generally and "overall." I did not go into the specifics. For a close up simulation, yes, it is hard, for a real thing with a good condenser microphone you can capture so many ghost sounds, mechanical noises, even how the felds touch the string - it is still hard to simulate. Speaking about "old youtube records" - it is the area where Ptq just shines for me, I mostly play using the emulation of some more old recording made from some distance, using some touch of tape saturation-compression, more reverb-to-dry settings - the result is just unnoticeable if it is the real recording or the artificial one. Though I see hundreds of minor areas to be improved but the overall situation with Ptq still continue to impress me a lot after about 3 months of everyday use. Generally speaking I don't see any problems with many notes involved, and yes, I play professionally (more or less). Though seems I can see the overall picture of the complain more or less. Maybe it have something with my English, but I don't get it. Where do all the high frequencies go with you increase sound saturation? why does the sound becomes so muddy and dull? why it does not with real instrument and microphones? Tone and hummer hardness help but not much, since you want the sound bright and crisp, not metallic. I got frustrated with this issue with all major soft, I basically tried all there is on the market. ![]() But once you start playing something with all 10 fingers, god forbids, professionally and in good tempo, the sound becomes dull, muddy, and cannot be compared even to an old youtube performance, which sound much crispier. Seriously, many sampled performance you find on the webpages have some jazz compositions with very thin music fabric - they sound crisp, and high frequencies are very bright. Either the developers have to rethink the engines, or introduce some corrections with increase of music density. It is an illness from which all the VST pianos suffer, and it has nothing to do with the quality of the samples, velocity layers, etc, but with the engine itself. ![]() An absolutely related to all similar software issue that one cannot help noticing is the lack or disappearance of sound crispiness with the increase of music fabric density.

I still remember getting jazzed with the news that the Atari 2600 could actually be played on a computer, then trying it out and only getting a single dot to show up on the screen (it didn't work), and I STILL thought it was great. I thought that was super exciting, even when it didn't work. If I recall the first system I played via emulation was the Colecovision. So the progression that people were creating emulators which could make your pc simulate actual console and arcade games was huge news. I still remember Mame was a new standalone Pac-Man emulator which eventually got renamed (to "Mame") after it kept adding more games. I got into the emulation scene really early on. And as a result has renewed my interest in video gaming as I've been spending a lot of time the last 4 years playing pinball. Much more pleasant gaming experience than standing at an arcade cabinet. I bought a Raspberry Pi and now I play MAME and other emulated consoles with RetroPie while I sit my fat ass in the recliner with a Xbox 360 controller off the big screen. I sold all that stuff by last summer and populated my small game room with pinball machines instead. Do!, Missile Command, Cosmic Alien and a few others. And I had yet another MAME cabinet plus I added dedicated games like Monaco GP, Mr. I didn't want to sodomize that cabinet with a trackball so I built another MAME cabinet out of a gutted Centipede to play trackball games. Then in the summer of 2009 I built my first MAME cabinet. It wasn't until December of 2008 when I saw the movie Chasing Ghosts by chance one night on Showtime that I found out that retrogaming was a thing. It didn't get me back into retrogaming though to be honest as from the early to mid 2000s I was more into computers and networking and I was spending time with kids and what not. So probably that night I went searching for an emulator pretty sure it was MAMEUI32 and then after trial and error figured out how all this stuff is supposed to work. At the time I had no interest in video gaming whatsoever but I thought it would be cool to play Galaga. There was some friend of a friend that was all excited and telling me about MAME and ROMs. I remember the first time I heard about it was the late 90s at some get together my wife and I went to. Tell me how you felt when you first got into emulation. And if I ever met guys who were involved the beers would be on me. MAME, for me, is the most important thing that has ever been released on home computers. Yesterday I played Raiden Fighters and its sequels. There are weeks that I don't play but sometimes I spend hours with it. That was really jaw dropping game back in 1983. They were light years ahead of the conversions we had in our home video systems (I had Vectrex, A2600 and C64). Of course I owned the commercial Williams pack (that had Robotron, Defender, Stargate and Bubbles). I thought when they disappeared from the arcades they were gone forever. Remember, they were only 10+ years old games back then. It's impossible to describe the feeling when I first had a chance to play Space Duel, Gravitar, Tempest and Xevious again. I don't remember what 486 machine me and brother had back in those days but they only ran them at 80% speed or so. I immediately went to buy a new one just to play EMU. Even Jeff Minter was there, being a legendary Tempest fan that he is. We had a discussion forum on Usenet for these classic emulators. Then there was a Xevious standalone emulator. I drove to my parent's house immediately (he was still living at home).īack in those days MAME did not emulate vector games. I went literally BERZERK (no pun intended). I was like: "You mean someone has recreated those games?" My little brother (who was about 15 back then) called me and told me that "Hey, there is an emulator that allows you to play Gravitar and Space Duel". I remember when I got MAME and Neil Bradley's EMU. You could do an all-butter pie crust, too. Explanation A: Go through all elements in dictionary list and get values for current key k if the current dictionary (d) being evaluated actually has that key. Now, I want to combine these two dictionaries in such a way that values for the keys present in both the dictionaries are taken from the parsed dictionary and for rest of the keys in default and their values are put in to the new dictionary. We can merge any number of dictionaries at once using ** operator. To merge the dictionaries, we will pop the items from a dictionary using the popitem() method and will keep adding it to another dictionary. In Python, it is a merge () operator that is used to join two dictionaries in a single line of code. When invoked on a dictionary the popitem() method deletes the most recently added item in the dictionary and returns the item in the form of a tuple as key value pair. In that article, I covered various methods for mapping one list onto the other. While using the above method, we have to consider the point that if there are common keys between the two dictionaries, the final dictionary will have common keys with values from the second dictionary from which we have extracted the items. It can also seem like the artists are giving their fans a fun song recommendation. It is especially funny to me when an artist sings about listening to another song- there’s something ironic about it ( Balenciaga’s T-Shirt Shirt energy). I am only interested in song lyrics that explicitly mention the name of another song or artist. įor my categorization, I am not interested in those examples. Sometimes the lines can blur, like when Taylor Swift was recently awarded a songwriting credit on Olivia Rodrigo’s album. But, more abstractly, all artists create music that is influenced by their predecessors. Music is always referencing other music, with samples being obvious examples. There are many ways to categorize music (verified by Reddit’s r/weirdspotifyplaylists ) and recently I have become obsessed with a specific categorization: songs that reference other songs. |
